Dealer-Accredited Logbook Servicing: Keep Your Warranty, Skip the Dealership Price
Share
It is the single most common question we get asked in the workshop: “If I don’t service my car at the dealership, will I void my warranty?”
The short answer is no. And for a lot of newer European vehicles, we can now record your service with the manufacturer exactly the same way the dealership does.
The law is on your side
Under Australian Consumer Law, a manufacturer cannot require you to service your vehicle at their dealership to keep your new-car warranty intact. You are free to use any qualified workshop, provided two conditions are met:
- The service follows the manufacturer’s schedule for your make, model and build date
- Parts and fluids used meet the manufacturer’s specification
That is it. If a dealership has ever implied otherwise, they were selling, not explaining. What matters is that the work is done properly, to specification, and recorded.
What has changed: digital service records
Here is where it used to get genuinely complicated. Most manufacturers have moved away from the paper logbook towards a digital service record held in their own system. On many newer vehicles there is barely a book to stamp at all.
That created a real problem for independent workshops. You could service the car perfectly, to the correct schedule, with the right parts — and still not be able to write that service into the manufacturer’s system. The history would sit in the workshop’s records instead of the manufacturer’s, which is exactly the sort of gap that causes arguments at warranty claim time or resale.
We are dealer accredited — so your service is logged online
For Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and Volkswagen vehicles from 2016 onwards, Veloce Automotive is dealer accredited. That means we log your service online, directly with the manufacturer.
Practically, that gives you three things:
- Your warranty stays intact. The service is on record with the manufacturer, not just with us.
- Your service history is complete. When you sell, the next owner (or their mechanic) can pull the full history from the manufacturer’s system.
- You are not paying dealership rates for it. Same record, same schedule, independent pricing.
Most independent workshops cannot do this. It is worth asking any workshop you are considering whether they can log the service online for your specific vehicle — and not to assume the answer is yes.
Is my car covered?
The accreditation applies to Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and Volkswagen from 2016 onwards. If your vehicle is older than that, or a different brand, you have not lost anything: we still service to the manufacturer’s schedule, still use parts meeting specification, and still stamp and record everything properly. Your warranty is protected either way. The online logging is simply an additional step we can take for those newer models.
If you are not sure where your vehicle sits, call us with your rego or VIN and we will tell you straight away.
What a logbook service with us actually involves
We work to the schedule for your exact model and build date — not a generic checklist. That covers engine oil and filter to the correct specification, the inspection items due at your interval, fluid levels and condition, brakes, tyres, battery, belts and hoses, and a diagnostic scan where the service schedule calls for one.
If we find something outside the scope of the service, we call you before doing anything. You get told what needs attention now, what can reasonably wait, and what it costs. Then you decide.
Frequently asked questions
Does servicing outside the dealership void my new-car warranty?
No. Australian Consumer Law protects your right to use any qualified workshop, as long as the manufacturer’s service schedule is followed and parts meeting specification are used.
Which vehicles can you log online with the manufacturer?
Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and Volkswagen vehicles from 2016 onwards. We are dealer accredited for these, so the service is recorded directly in the manufacturer’s system.
What if my car is older than 2016 or a different brand?
We still service to the manufacturer’s schedule using parts that meet specification, and we stamp and record the service. Your warranty remains protected.
Do you use genuine parts?
We use genuine or equivalent parts that meet the manufacturer’s specification, which is what the warranty requires. If you would prefer genuine parts specifically, tell us when you book.
How much does a logbook service cost?
It depends on your model and which interval is due, because the schedule itself differs at each service. Call us with your rego and we will quote before you commit.
